About The Project

My name is Travis. I’m 21 years old, and I’m trying to watch a bunch of important movies because I like movies.

I will draw my viewing from the book 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die because I like the variety surrounding the list, and there seems to be a lot of merit to its selections. There will be no set schedule or viewing order. If I have already seen something from the list, I’ll watch it again before I write the review.

They do update the book, tossing out a few existing entries, and my ultimate goal is to have an up-to-date completion of the book, so there will be some adjusting as things change. The plan for each review is a rundown of my thoughts on the film with some analysis.

For those interested, a checkable version of the list can be found here.

My goals through this process are to understand what makes great film, to evaluate the important works in film history, and just to watch some cool movies. I appreciate any support I may gain along the way.

So I guess I’m late to the party, but I nominated you for a Liebster Award too (no pressure though).

I was away while this Liebster thing started so I wasn’t sure if it was too late to do these things. I’ll definitely get around to it soon! I appreciate the nomination.

  4. Good luck on watching them all.
    How far through are you?

Hi Travis, good luck with this huge undertaking. I bought an older version of the book in 2005 so maybe a few more classics in it. I think on last count, I’m at 700 films or thereabouts – 12 years later (its good to jump outside the list now and again too). You are making much faster progress than me though. I would recommend Ran, Aguirre: The Wrath of God and Princess Mononoke above all else. My blog has a few essays on film now and again if you want to have a look https://momentarycinema.wordpress.com/

Wow that’s really impressive. And yeah, I definitely have to watch something of my own selection every week or so just so this keeps from feeling like a chore. I’ll definitely check out your blog; thanks for the support!

  10. Hi Travis, I have just become aware of your blog. Years ago there used to be a blog club for 1001 bloggers and though the club is now defunct we are still in contact with each other and comment on each others reviews. I hope you do not mind if I make a link to your blog and take a peek through your archive.

That’s great to hear! I know I’ve seen a few other blogs here and there, but they’re hard to find. I’d love to hear what everyone thinks about some of these movies.
